My research focuses on soil biogeochemistry. Specifically, I’m looking at the potential contribution of the desert plant Salsola inermis (which may be considered as an island of fertility in this desert ecosystem) to the N cycle in arid soils. For this I am measuring relative litter decomposition, N cycle dynamics (mineralization, nitrification, and denitrification) in the rhizosphere of shrubs, and also soil gas emissions (N2O, NO, and NH3) to the atmosphere at different distances from the plant.
